Shigeru Tanaka is a member of Pacific Asia Resource Center (PARC), a NGO based in Tokyo, and executive editor of the bimonthly journal
"Alternatives" published by PARC.
After studying architecture at Waseda
University, Shigeru studied urban planning with a focus on civil society development at Cornell University.
After finishing his studies, Shigeru worked with A SEED JAPAN, also a NGO based in Tokyo on the "eco-chokin (eco-friendly banking) project".
In the project he has researched various alternative finance schemes including micro-finance schemes and their effects on the environment and development of social capital.
More recently he has helped organize the Asian Solodarity Economy Forum (Tokyo, 2009) and made presentations at the Asian Social Entrepreneur's
Summit (Seoul, 2010).
