Amy Muska O’Brien is Director, Social & Community Investing at TIAA-CREF. Ms. O’Brien oversees the social screening of funds such as the CREF Social Choice Account, and acts as liaison to participants and other stakeholders in connection with the company’s social- and community-focused investments. She also provides leadership to the company on emerging social responsibility and community investing issues.Ms. O’Brien has over 10 years of social investment experience with a strong focus on environmental issues. Prior to joining TIAA-CREF in 2005, Ms. O’Brien served as Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at the Pension Boards - United Church of Christ, where she developed and implemented socially responsible investment strategies including social screening policies and proxy voting guidelines. Previously, she was a research manager at the Council on Economic Priorities, a nonprofit corporate responsibility research firm where she was responsible for core research projects and served as the organization’s representative to the inaugural Steering Committee of the Global Reporting Initiative. Ms. O’Brien serves on the Board of Directors of the Social Investment Forum (SIF), a national nonprofit membership association dedicated to promoting the concept and practice of socially and environmentally responsible investing. She also serves on SIF’s International Working Group Steering Committee. Ms. O’Brien earned a B.S. from Boston College and an M.S. in Environmental Management and Policy from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.Ms. O’Brien is based in TIAA-CREF’s New York office.
