Nigel, aged 50, joined Ludgate in May 2005 as a Director, bringing with him extensive investment management experience. He qualified in medicine from Oxford University in 1981 but left his medical career in 1988 to become a diplomat. He subsequently worked for MEC International as a director and strategy consultant to a client base of City firms. From 1998 to 2003 he was the CEO of Alpha Investment Management UK, the London subsidiary of a substantial hedge fund group. From Alpha he moved to be Head of the UK Institutional Business for Pioneer Investments, the €230 billion asset management arm of the Unicredito Banking Group.
