Mr. Shedde is currently Managing Partner of BTS Investment AdvisorsPvt. Ltd. Mumbai which is the advisor to Swiss Technology VentureCapital Fund (Swiss Tec). The fund is a Mauritius based offshore fundwith a corpus of USD 22 million. The fund has been promoted by theState Secretariat For Economic Affairs (seco) of the Swiss governmentin 1997. Mr. Shedde is associated with Swiss Tec since its inception.Swiss Tec has invested about 80% of its corpus in diversified sectorsand has achieved 7 exits of which 4 with more than 21% IRR. He iscurrently involved in raising a follow-on fund BTS India Fund with US million corpus.In August 1994 Mr. Shedde took over as President of ICICI Venture FundsManagement Company Limited (earlier known as TDICI) the first and oneof the largest and most successful venture capital companies in India.During his tenure, ICICI Venture substantially increased its investmentpace, average investment size and the geographic reach of itsoperations. Mr. Shedde was one of the principal founders of ICICIVenture (in 1988) and has been integrally involved with almost everyaspect of the development of private equity and venture capital inIndia.The motivation to create ICICI VEnture was derived from ICICI Banks(earlier ICICI) success with the Program for the Advancement ofCommercial Technology (PACT) a US$ 20 million program that Mr. Sheddemanaged during 1985-94. PACT deployed USAID capital to fund jointventure projects between US and Indian technology companies. PACT wasthe catalyst for numerous successful companies, some of which havebecome prominent successes in the US-high technology landscape,including Aspect Inc., a leading ECAD circuit design software company(also backed by Sequoia Venture Capital) and Netscout Inc., a leader inremote network monitoring systems for both local and wide areanetworks. While running PACT, Mr. Shedde was also in charge of theWestern Zonal Office (Mumbai) of ICICI Venture while concurrentlysupporting additional USAID programs including PACER(Program for the Acceleration of Commercial Energy Research Fund), ACE(Agriculture & Commercial Enterprise Fund), TEST (Trade inEnvironmental Services and Technologies). The cumulative total capitalinvested through these programs was approximately US$ 100 million.Prior to managing these programs, Mr. Shedde was part of a unique teamwithin ICICI (1977-1985) which sought to identify unmet demand andunserved needs in the Indian economy through Project Promotion byencouraging and assisting new private sector initiatives. Once a needwas identified, this project promotion process involved identifying anappropriate private sector collaborator, organizing the efforts into anattractive financing/investment opportunity for debt and equityproviders, and in providing on-going advice and assistance in thedevelopment of these enterprises. These efforts were typically focusedon creating private sector enterprises that could effectively exportproducts, create desirable substitutes for imported products, andcontribute to promoting emerging technologies in India.Prior to his involvement in the project promotion initiative, Mr.Shedde focussed on traditional Project Appraisal in ICICI from1973-1977. Mr. Shedde received a B.S. in Aeronautical Engineering fromIndian Institute of Technology, Mumbai and is an alumnus of MIT,Boston. He is a past Chairman of the Indian Venture CapitalAssociation.
