Somak Ghosh is the President, Corporate Finance and DevelopmentBanking at YES BANK. As the spearhead of the Corporate Financepractice, he is responsible for four distinct Product Groups –Infrastructure Banking, Structured and Project Finance, Realty Bankingand Financial Restructurings. As the head of Development and KnowledgeBanking he provides leadership to Food and Agri Strategic Advisory andResearch (FASAR), Agri, Micro & Rural Banking, Corporate and SocialResponsibility (Responsible Banking) and Strategic Initiatives –Governments.Somak is part of the Executive Management Team at YES BANK and a memberof the Bank’s ALCO (Asset Liability Committee) and the ManagementCredit Committee. Somak has lead the Bank’s strong market leadershipposition in structured credit products and leads a growing team ofprofessionals in four product clusters. In addition, he is alsoresponsible for delivering credit products in line with regulatoryrequirements to under banked, sub-prime borrowers through structuredcustomised solutions to overcome challenges of managing credit risk andlimited penetration into rural India.Somak also has a deep professional interest in the area ofsustainability and provides leadership to the Responsible Bankinginitiative at YES BANK. He has been instrumental in revivinginterest in financing renewable energy projects in India by thecommercial banking community and has represented on variousinternational forums on topics covering inter-alia, CDM and ProjectFinancing, Renewable Energy Financing in India, SustainableInfrastructure and the Role of Banks. Recently, he isspearheading the Bank’s initiative into the Micro-Finance space and hasbegun working with leading domestic and international players toformulate the Bank’s strategy in this domain. Prior to joining YES BANK, he was a Director with Rabo India (75%subsidiary of Rabo International, the Dutch Banking major). Hehas over 13 years of experience in various capacities in India andEurope and in leading organizations like ICICI Ltd, Reliance Industriesand Ispat Europe.Somak is a member of various industry associations, including FICCI,CII and Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry, among others.Somak holds an MBA Degree in Finance from FMS Delhi and B.E ChemicalEngineering from the University of Mumbai.
