SIFJ publishes a bi-annual SRI Market Report in Japan. The latest edition has been published in 2009. I will briefly outline Japanese SRI market trends and will discuss implications for future ESG research in Japan.

An Approach of Integration of ESG Issues into In-house Research

Nissay Asset Management Corporation (NAM) is a signatory to UNPRI and set clear policy to consider ESG issues in our investment process. In-house analysts have started to evaluate companies from ESG aspects and to rank companies by ESG performance since 2008. Also, NAM has worked on developing investment styles that ESG issues are incorporated and launched responsible investment funds for the various asset classes. In September 2008, NAM established ESG advisory committee to advise and supervise its ESG activities and to monitor and check its responsible investment funds from viewpoints of outside intellectuals.
