The European Commission (2006) estimated that “partly because of its large share of total consumption, the largest cost-effective savings potential lies in the residential (households) and commercial buildings sector (tertiary sector), where the full potential is now estimated to be around 27% and 30% of energy use, respectively.” This amounts up to an energy savings potential of the building sector by 2020 of 154 Mtoe (million tons of oil equivalent); compared to a savings potential of 105 Mtoe in the transport sector and 95 Mtoe in the manufacturing industry. This session will witness the business plan presentation by the clean energy businesses/projects selected and mentored by USAID ECO-Asia. USAID ECO-Asia has two clean energy finance initiatives, namely, China PFAN (Private Finance Advisory Network) for China, and ACEBA (Asia Clean Energy Business Accelerator) for the Asia region. These initiatives identify the profitable clean energy businesses/projects with good scale-up potential having excellent management teams and technological edge, and which are socially responsible and environmentally beneficial. The selected entrepreneurs receive pro-bono mentoring and extensive technical support to develop the business plan, investment pitch and a PPT presentation. USAID ECO-Asia facilitates the connection with Investment and markets through its global, regional, and local partners.
