Mr. Paul Wedel is Executive Director of the Kenan Institute Asia basedin Bangkok. He has spent more than 32 years in Asia as a businessconsultant, manager, educator, and journalist. Mr. Wedel heads all operations of the Kenan Institute of PrivateEnterprise in Asia and serves as the executive director of the KenanInstitute Asia which he helped found. He led the design and developmentof the Institute’s activities under USAID’s “Accelerating EconomicRecovery in Asia” program that began in 1999. Mr. Wedel has guided the education and business research activities inThailand of the Kenan Institute which is part of the Kenan-FlaglerBusiness School at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hillsince 1993. He led the development of the Institute’s unit focusing on CorporateSocial Responsibility and has participated in the Institute’s CSRtraining. He has been certified in Corporate Community Involvement bythe Carroll School of Management’s Center for Corporate Citizenship atBoston College. He has played an active role in the annual Asia Forumon Corporate Social Responsibility since 2003. He has led presentationsat the Forum and headed the judging panel for the annual CorporateEnvironmental Excellence Award.Prior to joining the Kenan Institute, Mr. Wedel worked for more thanthree years for the Pacific Rim Consulting Group as Associate Directorbased in Singapore assisting multi-national companies plan theirstrategies for the region. He worked on assignments with firms such asGE, Standard Chartered Bank, Texas Instruments and Phillips.He came to Asia first as a Peace Corps volunteer living and teachingin southern Thailand. Later, he directed a Thai governmentprogram for educational television. After receiving his masters degreein journalism and Southeast Asian studies from Columbia University, hereturned to Asia with United Press International. He spent 15 years inHong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and India in a variety ofmanagement positions including regional manager for Southeast Asia. He is the author of two books and more than 300 magazine and newspaperarticles on business, economic, and political developments in Asia. Heis former President of the Foreign Correspondents Club of Thailand andformer Vice President of the Foreign Correspondents Association ofSingapore. He has appeared numerous times as a panelist or speaker onThai-language television programs.
