James Pearson is a Non Financial Risk specialist providing risk andasset management services to the financial and real estate communitythroughout the Asia Pacific region. He is a Non Financial RiskAdvisor to an ASEAN based investment fund. Mr Pearson has over 18years of experience in the internationalenvironmental health safety social and risk consultancy industry andhas been located in the United Kingdom, Hong Kong and Bangkok. Hehas extensive experience in management consultancy, project managementand direction of multi-jurisdictional and multi facility studiesaddressing business and management risks from an environmental healthsafety, social awareness and sustainable perspective. Since relocating to Asia in 1992 he has advised many major US,European, Hong Kong and Asian companies on the management and technicalaspects of their investments. His other clients have includedmany Fortune 500 companies in a wide range of industries from propertyand real estate, hotel and tourism, infrastructure, power and utility,manufacturing and the financial sector.Mr Pearson’s understanding and experience of bridging the strategic,technical, management and social/community arenas has enabled him toadvise on reasonable, practical and appropriate programs to addressenvironmental social and governance (ESG) issues in aninvestment. Through his work in Asia he has become familiar with a wide range ofmanufacturing and process plants and process, infrastructure, powersector and commercial projects. This often involved thecomparison of environmental performance against World Bank, IFC andother international loan lending criteria such as the EquatorPrinciples. He has managed a number of audit programs as part ofthe development and implementation of environmental management systemsfor local and international based companies.He has additional expertise in performance assessments, siteinvestigations, waste management, ISO14001 and ISO9001 certification,hazard identification and regulatory review and analysis. Thishas enabled him to fully appreciate the relationship between practicalimplementation and compliance with the necessary standards. Thisexperience is also translated in all aspects of management systemperformance assessments. Mr Pearson is also a registered asbestosconsultant with the Hong Kong Government.Mr Pearson is a Chartered Environmentalist and Fellow of theInstitution of Environmental Scientists, a Principal EnvironmentalAuditor under the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment(IEMA), Member Hong Kong Institute of Occupational and EnvironmentalHealth, Member of Society of Petroleum Engineers, HK Environmental LawAssociation and a Registered Asbestos Consultant (HK EPD).Previously Mr Pearson has held the following positions: USAEP (HK) ExecSteering Committee (1998 –2002)Chairman, HK General Chamber of Commerce Environment Committee (2000 –2002), Coalition of Service Industries, Executive Committee(2000-2002), Institute Waste Management (1990- 1998).
