Gil Crawford is General Manager of MicroVest Capital Management. Hehasover 20 years experience with microfinance institutions and capitalmarkets, and has worked extensively in Latin America and Africa, aswell as in Asia.Before joining MicroVest, Gil Crawford worked for the Latin AmericanFinancial Markets Division at the International Finance Corporation(IFC), and focused on investments in microfinance institutions.Prior to joining IFC, Mr. Crawford created and ran Seed CapitalDevelopment Fund, a US based non-profit firm, involved in creatingfinancial instruments and attracting funds to capitalize microfinanceinstitutions, primarily in Latin America, Asia and Africa. Specificprojects included: Latin American Challenge Investment Fund (LA-CIF), aUS$ 20 million loan fund for microfinance institutions in LatinAmerica; DEVCAP, a "shared return mutual fund" whose total assetsreached over US$ 27 million dollars. Mr. Crawford has also been aMember of Profund's Investment Committee and alternate member to theBoard of Directors for many years.Prior to creating SCDF, Mr. Crawford was the Assistant Project Directorfor Africa Venture Capital Project, a .1 million USAID contractdesigned to create risk capital firms in Africa. Mr. Crawford receivedhis bank training at Chase Manhattan Bank in the mid-80's after workingin Africa for the Red Cross and State Department. He graduated fromSAIS at Johns Hopkins University in 1983 and Bates College in 1980.
