Phil Cottle CEO ForestRe Phil Cottle 54, is currently the principal and founder of ForestRe Holdings Company. Phil is in the process of setting up ForestRe to start trading in January 2005 as a new Syndicate in London. ForestRe will be a new insurance and reinsurance company designed to provide capacity to forestry, plantations and tree crops owners globally. Insurance capacity to the forestry sector had declined dramatically in the last five years. Phil has for 13 years provided full time forestry and crop risk assessment consultancy services in over 50 countries for syndicates in Lloyd'ss of London, as part of Aon'ss Agricultural Risk Management team. From 2000 to 2003 he was with a major global reinsurance company, PartnerRe and was their advisor on forestry. Phil also provided PartnerRe'ss Board with awareness, information and strategic development ideas in relation to the sustainability, environment and the physical, legal and financial liabilities arising out of climate change for insurers and has published various papers on the topic. Key skill areas include project risk analysis, technical support to underwriters, and design of agricultural and forestry insurance products world-wide. Phil has been responsible for planning and instigation of national, provincial crop and forestry insurance schemes including the first forestry scheme for Spain and Indonesia (the National Indonesian Tree Crop Programme or NITCIP). He has also worked in the development of crop insurance schemes for Malaysia, Syria, Sudan and forest provincial fire fighting cost protection in Alberta Canada. Phil Cottle began his career spending 15 years in agricultural extension and rural development among Pacific islands, Central Africa and in the UK. Phil Cottle has a Masters in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development with a B.Sc in agriculture and tropical crops from Reading University.
