Paschen von Flotow is executive director of the Sustainable Business Institute since 1998. Before he joined the institute he served as manager in a major automotive group (1992-98). He managed cross-functional and international teams as head of strategic planning "Environment and Traffic" and as product manager. Since he joined the institute he has worked on international projects related to sustainable business, social responsible investment, foreign direct investment, supply chain management and voluntary agreements. He has worked with several stakeholders including the German Federal Government, companies, Industry associations, environmental and development NGOs, UNCTAD and a wide range of academic institutes. He studied economics and philosophy in Freiburg, Cologne and St. Gallen and holds a PhD in economics. Between 1987 and -92 he worked as research assistant at the economic department of the University of St.Gallen, Switzerland. He initiated and helped to build up oikos -student initiative for environmental economics of the University of St.Gallen (1987), the Wwiss Industry Association for Environmental Management, Oikos Foundation and Oikos International.
