Johan Piet holds an academic degree in both economics and environmental sciences. As a Chartered Accountant he applies himself to advice and to verification of environmental and sustainability reports of companies and governments and other services in sustainability control and corporate social responsibility.
He is director of TranspaRAbility, a small but fully independent body supporting sustainability communication between interested parties by improving information quality and adding credibility by professional assurance.
Formerly, he was founder and director of the Institute of Environmental Management (WIMM) and professor of the University of Amsterdam, followed by director of Deloitte & Touche Environmental Services and later of KPMG Sustainability.
Next to his main task, he is president of the Sustainability Working Party of the European Federation of Accountants (FEE) and represents the accountancy profession in a number of international institutions, such as European Commission, United Nations, International Organization of Standardization (ISO), Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), AccountAbility (AA1000) and the European Federation of Social Investment Funds (Eurosif).
