Toni Symonds has held a variety of senior-level public policy positions in Washington, D.C. and California during her 27-year career in government.

Throughout her career, she has advocated for a greater examination of the overlapping roles of the private sector and government policy in providing for a sustainable global economy.

Ms. Symonds is the former California State Deputy Controller for Investments and Corporate Governance serving as representative to boards of the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) and the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS). 

In her work she has strived to link investment strategies to long- term sustainability issues, such as climate change, community development patterns, access to business capital, and economic diversification.

Ms. Symonds currently serves as an in-house senior policy advisor to elected officials in the California State Legislature, which annually approves a $100 million budget impacting the state's $1.9 trillion economy.
